Carpet Facts
Proper maintenance can extend the life of your carpet by removing abrasive dirt before it can build up and damage carpet fibers. If proper maintenance is neglected, the carpet's appearance will suffer, shortening the carpet's useful life and raising long-term costs.
With consistent, regularly scheduled maintenance performed by certified technicians, your carpet will retain most of its original appearance over time. Irregular maintenance, which is performed only after the appearance of the carpet is totally unacceptable, cannot bring carpet appearance back to the desired levels.
Soil is very destructive. Soil, which is left behind after vacuuming has razor-sharp edges. If it is not removed, soil will cut your carpet fibers, thus permanently damaging it.
The amount of soil your carpet traps depends on your carpet maintenance practices, outside environment, work environment, traffic patterns, and traffic volume. That is why some areas of your carpet will wear out faster than others.
Your carpet care program must consist of four elements:
1. Reduction of soil entering the building through using mats.
2. Removal of dry soil through vacuuming.
3. Removal of spots and spills by certified carpet technicians.
4. Cleaning by hot water extraction by certified carpet technicians.
Carpet represents a substantial investment for any facility and deserves adequate care to prolong its effective life. If the carpet maintenance budget is set unrealistically low, the carpet will need to be replaced prematurely.
The carpet cleaner you are currently using might not be certified or adequately trained. Furthermore, he/she might be using a cleaning method which might be harmful to your carpet. The following table will provide you with the necessary information to determine if the cleaning method your carpet cleaner is using is effective or not:
